Who we are

About the museum

Since 1924, the Meridian has cared for objects from the ancient world and shared their stories with everyone.

Our story

The Meridian Museum began with one explorer's gift of 40 objects to the town. Today we care for more than 12,000 artefacts, from Sumerian clay tablets to Roman coins.

We believe history belongs to everyone. Our galleries are designed for curious minds of every age, and our learning team welcomes over 20,000 school pupils each year.
